“Cinemas are growth magnets …. Fantastic to see this corner coming to life again as there are so many new apartments being built in walking distance,  particularly those apartments in Annie Street.”  – Ryan Leddicoat

THE dramatic, and much-anticipated, redevelopment of the Village Twin cinema at the corner of Brunswick and Barker streets is set to begin in February, owner Peter Sourris said.

Plans for the two-storey site included a restaurant, a bar, two coffee shops, a six-screen cinema complex (including gold class) on the bottom floor, and a function centre on the second level.

“We had to get a DA through council and get an architect to draw plans up and get an approval and that takes a while with council. That’s been the hold-up really,” owner Peter Sourris said. Mr Sourris, along with his brother Stephen, bought the site in February 2013. The DA was lodged by James, (Peter and Stephen’s father), Peter and Stephen Sourris.

“We were probably ready to start in November but then Christmas came along and everyone went on holidays,” he said about the slow start to construction.
